Choosing a Water Heater for Your Hamden Home

We install and replace gas, electric, and tankless systems. Before recommending one, we evaluate the home’s venting, gas line capacity, and electrical service to determine which equipment is compatible with the property.

Our technicians receive factory-level training on Rheem, Ruud, and Navien equipment. That product knowledge supports an informed discussion about available models and installation requirements.

Gas Models
A gas unit requires an appropriate fuel supply and venting arrangement. We check the gas line capacity and existing venting rather than assume a replacement can use every connection without changes.

Electric Models
Electric units depend on suitable electrical service. Our evaluation accounts for the power available so the recommendation fits the home’s electrical setup.

Tankless Models
Tankless systems heat water as needed instead of storing it in a conventional tank. Some models can reach efficiencies of up to 99%, while conventional tank models are generally about 58% to 68% efficient. Actual efficiency varies by model, fuel type, installation, and operating conditions.

Signs It May Be Time for a Replacement

Pooling water at the base of the unit can indicate that replacement should be considered. Other warning signs include rusty or discolored water, rumbling or popping sounds, and corrosion around pipe inlets, the pressure relief valve, or the drain valve.

Age also provides useful context. Gas tank models typically last 8 to 12 years, while electric tank models often last 10 to 15 years. Tankless systems frequently provide reliable service for 20 years or longer, although maintenance, usage, water quality, and equipment condition affect lifespan.

Hard or mineral-heavy water can meaningfully reduce equipment lifespan. Mineral accumulation may also contribute to noise and declining performance over time.

Repair or Replace?

The decision generally depends on the unit’s age and condition, the source of the problem, and the cost of restoring reliable operation. A newer unit with an isolated issue may warrant a different approach than aging equipment with leakage, corrosion, or recurring problems. We assess the system before discussing replacement options.

  • With a multi-zone ductless heat pump, you can connect multiple indoor air handlers—often up to eight—to heat and cool different rooms independently.

  • A ductless heat pump works by moving heat, not creating it. In the summer, it pulls heat out of your home to keep you cool. In the winter, it extracts heat from the outdoor air—even when it’s cold—and brings it inside. Each indoor unit controls the temperature of its own room, providing efficient, quiet comfort without ductwork.

  • You should never have to add refrigerant (Freon) to your central air conditioning system, unless there is a leak in the system.

If your system has a leak, a service technician should never be "topping it off" with refrigerant. The system needs to be leak tested and the leak needs to be repaired.

A refrigerant leak WILL harm the compressor, cause the system to draw more electricity, provide inadequate cooling and/or heating if it is a heat pump.

Many refrigerants are being banned due to the ozone depleting chemicals. That is another reason that ALL refrigerant leaks need to be repaired and not topped off with more refrigerant.

Refrigerant repairs on older central air conditioning systems can get costly, so you may be better off replacing your system.

  • YES THEY DO!

Years ago heat pumps only worked well in warmer climates, such as Florida or the Southern California.

Heat Pumps are being installed in many homes all over Connecticut, Maine, Mass, Vermont and Rhode Island.

ALL of the home owners are writing rave reviews about their energy savings and comfort they are getting from their new heat pump systems.
